COVID-19 Compilation: Part 46 - February 7-13, 2021

On March 14th, 2020, I began posting COVID-19 updates to my facebook page, regarding the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. I have used data from worldometer as a primary source for daily and cumulative data, with frequent supplementation from various national and local sites.

Notables this week:

  • new cases and deaths continued to fall sharply in both the USA and worldwide
  • California surpassed New York as the state with the most deaths during the pandemic
  • reconciliations of older deaths continued, adding thousands to the overall death totals

This blog post compiles the period of February 7th through 13th, 2021. see https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ for more

The latest state to update its death reporting is Ohio. Per a statement put out yesterday by the Ohio Department of Health: "ODH is currently reconciling COVID-19 deaths, including about 2,500 in today's count. This primarily impacts deaths occurring from November to December 2020." Technically, the 2,559 total deaths reported by Ohio yesterday were the most of any state on any day so far during the pandemic. Ohio had reported about 650 "reconciling" deaths the prior day; overall Ohio death totals have jumped by more than 40% in the past week.
